The Abilene Kids Council members planned, organized and raised the funds for the Little Ike statue which was placed in the Abilene Mini Park. The Council sold commemorative bricks to raise funds for the statue. The bricks, bearing the names of those who contributed funds now surround the base of the statue. The unveiling of the Eisenhower statue took place on October 18, 1999, with Anne Eisenhower Flottl (Eisenhower's granddaughter) present for the unveiling.

Note: The Abilene Kids Adivsory Council is a group of young people where ideas can be discussed with their peers, and ideas and recommendations for action can be presented to the Abilene City Commission. In turn, the City Commission can submit to the Kids Council ideas or problems they feel are related to young people's issues and concerns. The Kids Council was established as a City Board on March 27, 2000. The board consists of no more than fifteen student members and two adult advisors, who are appointed by the Governing Body for one year terms. This is an excellent way for adults and young people in the community to work together.
