The City of Abilene’s Lead Service Line Inventory (LSLI) survey initiative has been in effect since earlier this year when the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced changes to drinking water regulations requiring water suppliers to identify all materials used in the construction of the water system. The goal of these changes is to identify and remove all lead pipes in the drinking water system. The City of Abilene, as the water supplier, is responsible for collecting and submitting the survey information identifying all construction materials used on both the supplier’s and the customer’s side of the water meter.
In March 2023, the City mailed a packet to all property owners and residents that included a letter, informational brochure and the survey that needs to be completed and returned. Since our initiative began, we have collected surveys back from only 812 out of 3,099 property addresses. If you no longer have this packet or did not receive one, please access all the information from our Community Engagement LSLI page found on our website at www.abilenecityhall.com.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has mandated water suppliers submit the completed information before October 16, 2024. Your help in avoiding interference from KDHE would be appreciated.
The form can be mailed or dropped off at City Hall at 419 N. Broadway in Abilene. Please contact City Hall at 785-263-2550 if you have any questions.
