The City of Abilene has a longstanding history of fiscal responsibility based on sound financial planning and budgeting. Sales Tax

Effective July 1, 2025, Sales Tax within the City of Abilene will be 9.35%

  • 6.50% State Sales Tax
  • 1.50% County Sales Tax
  • .50% City General Fund Sales Tax
  • .25% County Radio Tax (Sunsets in 2029)
  • .25% City Street Fund Tax (Sunsets in 2034)
  • .35% City Quality of Life Tax (Sunsets in 2035) 

The City Sales Tax plus the portion of the County Sales Tax the City of Abilene receives goes into the General Fund to reduce the amount of property tax assessed each year. Approximately $1.2 million is received each year.

The City does not provide direct notifications about sales tax updates to businesses. Businesses are responsible for monitoring KDOR’s quarterly rate publications and updating their systems as needed.
